Established 7 years ago,Tom Ro haven for Equines and Children situated in Cape Point is a registered NPO that rescues abused neglected and unwanted horses, which they use in various programmes to help adults and children.

“Tom To Haven was founded as a result of a number of personal tragedies,” explains Gillian McCulloch, founder and chairperson of Tom Ro Haven.

“We were reminded about the healing power of horses whilst volunteering at a local horse care unit and decided we needed to rescue horses and create a safe place where they could heal themselves and people in need. Tom Ro Haven for Equines and children is named in honour of my Mom and Dad.

There are currently twenty rescued horses. Each one has an unique story.”Those who ordinarily would never be able to interact with horses get an opportunity to spend time with them and find peace. We are always in need of feed and supplements for the horses, as well as clothing for the children and youth who come to us weekly. At present we are trying to raise additional funding to complete wind shelters and we need tools, lumber and help,” says Gillian.

Tom Ro haven also needs volunteers. Their volunteer programs enable participants to not only interact with the magnificent rescues and outreach recipients, but to get their hands dirty in a safe, fun environment.
